Vernon Cleve Morrow, beloved husband, father, brother and uncle left this world at midnight on December 3, 2011. He was born September 19, 1933 on a farm in Cass County, North Dakota about three miles from a small town called Amenia. Vernon was the son of the late William Cleveland and Lydia Carlson Morrow. To his friends and family he was known as ‘Sonny’. Vernon was a proud life member of the Disabled American Veterans, The Retired Enlisted Association and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Vernon served as a Search and Destroy Specialist in Korea and Vietnam. After his Army tours, he entered the United States Air Force serving in Germany, North Africa, Spain and Italy, and later came to NORAD for 12 years before retiring. Vernon was a patriot who served his country with honor and bravery. After his military career, he joined the United States Postal Service in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For 25 years he worked for the USPS before retiring to relax and enjoy time with loved ones and his furry canine babies. Vernon was a naturally gifted artist. While in the military he drew ads for cosmetic companies and his cartoons were published in military journals. He received recognition for parade float designs, and murals painted on Post Office walls. He was a storyteller on paper! Those who were blessed to know him will always remember his warmth, kindness, sense of humor and his radiant smile. He is survived by Juanita, his wife of 47 years, a son Ryan Cleve, daughter Heidi Morrow-Hahn, and son-in-law William Hahn, Jr. He is also survived by his sisters: Carol M. Cannon [Jay D; deceased], of Indian Trail, NC, Valerie Deal [Charles] of Hickory, NC, Gail Dawkins [LeRoy] of Durham, NC, Grace Fitzpatrick [Bill] of Fremont, CA, and Florence Brainerd [Jim], of Tallahassee, FL. Sister Ruth Adele preceded him in death. As a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, he will always remain in our hearts forever. He helped to make our country a safer place. Even when Vernon was a little boy, he played soldier and continued to follow his dream throughout his adult life. The ‘War Eagle’ is now at peace! In summary his motto might be these words: “Strength: It is not in numbers. It’s in singular determination!” A military service with honors will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery Pavilion A at 3pm on Thursday, December 15. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MaxFund Animal Wellness Center at 1000 Inca St., Denver, CO 80204, to Pikes Peak Hospice or Disabled American Veterans.
