Vernon Earl Parker was born February 12, 1930 to Victor and Eva (Leventon) Parker in Placerville, Ca. A three sport letterman, he graduated from El Dorado High School class of 1947. He married Joyce Walker on January 8, 1949 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Placerville. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Vernon began a career in the lumber industry in 1948 in Smith Flat in El Dorado County. Later he became a lumber grader for Caldor Lumber Co. in Diamond Springs. In 1957 Winton Lumber Co. in Martell bought the Caldor Lumber Co. and moved the operation to its Martell facility. In 1959 Vernon and his family relocated to Sutter Creek where he continued to work for Winton, then American Forrest Products, Bendix Forrest Products and finally Georgia Pacific until his retirement in 1989. His expertise in the lumber industry spanned everything from lumber grader to plywood plant superintendent and finally General Manager of operations. Vernon loved baseball and during his lifetime he coached many senior and little league baseball teams both in El Dorado and Amador counties. He was also remembered as an avid fisherman, camper, golfer and in his early an expert archer and accomplished bowler. Vernon is survived by his wife of 63 years Joyce Parker, daughter Penny Smallfield and husband Douglas, son Craig Parker and wife Sharon. Grandsons Scott Smallfield and wife Kristie and Brad and Matthew Parker and his Great Granddaughter Savannah Smallfield. Friends are invited to attend a visitation Thursday, January 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 27 at 11:00 A.M. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Interment will be in the El Dorado Cemetery in El Dorado, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
