In Remembrance of Virgil Simmons Virgil Leroy Simmons was born on February 23, 1923 in Tipton, Missouri to Stephan D. Simmons and Leila Wells Simmons. Virgil passed away at his home in Rochester, Washington on January 1, 2013. Virgil served in the armed forces as a switchboard and radio operator from February 1943 to January 1946. On September 4, 1948, Virgil married his one true love, Miriam Jean Peil. Together, Virg and Miriam had six children: Ronald Leroy, Jerrold Eugene, Virginia Jean, Darroll Dean, Donald Ray and Raelene Dee. Virgil had many occupations over his years, but the one he enjoyed most was working side-by-side with his wife, restoring antique furniture and pump organs. Virgil retired from South Seattle Auto Auction in 1981, after suffering his first heart attack. Retirement afforded Virgil the time to spend with his family and grandchildren doing things he loved. Virgil was an avid woodworker and tinkerer. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and making fudge and jellies for his children. He was a dedicated fan of the Seattle Mariners and enjoyed traveling and going to the casinos! The man had a lucky streak on the slots that was the envy of all and a gift for telling a fantastic story!! Virgil will be forever in the hearts and memories of those who loved him! Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Miriam; his six children; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother, Melvin; and sister, Lois. Virgil, may you rest in peace and keep watch over us all. And “Hey Dad?…..We will meet again!!!” Please leave memories of Virgil or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
