Wanda L. Beck passed away on November 8, 2014. She was 61. After completing college at Western Carolina University in 1977, Wanda was hired by Hormel Foods and progressed through the sales group to become a Territory Manager. She was one of the original female pioneers in the food service group. During her time with Hormel she received numerous sales awards in addition to mentoring many sales representatives over the years. Wanda enjoyed her time with Hormel and was extremely dedicated to her job. After 34 years Wanda retired in 2011. At that time she became active as a volunteer with the Mecklenburg Animal Shelter caring for and protecting animals which was a passion of hers. Wanda will be missed by her family and many friends. She was a fun loving, compassionate person who truly cared about others. Many people were recipients of Wanda's generosity and care. She is survived by her brother Larry A. Beck and his wife Sheryl of Gastonia, a niece Ashley M. Hieronymus and her husband Stephen of Gastonia and her loving longtime partner and friend Anne B. Johnson of Charlotte. She is predeceased by her parents Gene H. Beck and Frances (Guffey). A Remembrance Service will be held at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 1pm. The family will receive visitors from 12-1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Mecklenburg Animal Shelter or the SPCA.
