Wayne Walter Mackey
January 14th, 1952 - October 26th, 2023
Wayne Walter Mackey died in Palm Springs, California on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He was born in New Jersey to Walter and Thelma Mackey on January 14, 1952. They moved to Chico, CA where he attended Chico schools and graduated from Chico Senior High School in 1970. He retired from the Marine Corps as an Operations Communication Chief after 20 years of service. He was a proud Marine and carried the honor of the Marine Corps throughout his entire life. After retiring from the service, he continued working and retired from the USPS in Twenty-nine Palms, CA. He was a man who followed GOD, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to Heaven. He was an active member and had been a Deacon of Desert Community Church in Twenty-nine Palms, CA, where he chose to retire. Wayne and his wife Phillys Mackey, now deceased, were married for over 40 years. They fell in love on New Year’s Eve in Chico, California and were inseparable. Their love grew with each passing day. Even after 40 years of marriage, you would think they had just fallen in love with the way they looked at one another, held hands and never went to sleep at night without telling one another they loved each other. Wayne is survived by his brothers Walt (Peggy) Mackey, Jr. and Roger (Deborah Kay) Mackey, and his sister Alice (James) Martin; his children Jennifer (Derek) Paoli, Gerene (Jimmy) Behrens, Shelly (Dennis) Wadsworth, and Randy (Marisela) Behrens; and his grandchildren Jasmine Cox, Jason Cox, Tanya Rath, Tiffany Pratt, Tabitha Morua, Kase Behrens, Matthew Behrens, Richard Behrens, Agape Behrens, Randy, Jr. Behrens, Blissity Behrens, Trinity Behrens, and Johanna Behrens; and six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be planned at a future date in Chico, California.
