David Earle Roose
Oct 21, 1954 — May 9, 2026
David E. Roose, 71, died May 9 in Littleton CO. He was born Oct. 21,1954 in Goshen, IN.
He was a graduate of Goshen High School and Indiana University, Bloomington, majoring in Finance, Marketing & Economics. During high school he worked at The News Bookstore. One summer he was privileged to work on the old wooden boats coming to the marina in Syracuse for repair or service. After college he was hired to do cost analysis for new boats being added to Starcraft Boat Div.’s. line-up. His favorite part of the job was getting to test drive a new proto-type.
When The News Bookstore’s owner retired, it was sold, the name changed to NBS Office Supply, and Dave went to work as Chief Finance Officer, over-seeing it’s branch stores in Warsaw and Wabash.
While at NBS he met & married his wife, Suellen, who worked in outside sales. Later they started The Office Barn, which they sold in 2019 before retiring to CO.
David’s interests included music, art, travel, hiking and mountain climbing. He built a dune buggy in high school, and enjoyed working on and driving old classic cars. He backpacked through Europe, visited Japan, Hong Kong, and, in later years, fell in love w/several cities in Mexico. He climbed part-way up the Matterhorn, but had to retreat due to an impending storm. He loved horses & dogs and had a great sense of humor. He’ll be sorely missed.
He was a member of The First Methodist Church, a proud Rotarian, and volunteered at The Boys & Girls Club of Goshen, later serving on their Board, as well as the Board of Goshen General Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Earle and Nadine Roose. He is survived by his wife, Suellen, a step-son, Tobey Yeiter, his sister, Karen (Bill) McDonald and his niece, Elizabeth McDonald. He will be cremated. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County or the Parkinson Assoc. of the Rockies.
