July 15, 1954 — July 26, 2025
Gary A. Gibson Sr., 71, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at Upstate University Hospital. He attended LaFayette High School and later served his country proudly in the United States Army.
Gary was a man of strength, humor and heart. A devoted father, grandfather and friend. His life revolved around his family, especially the joy he found in spending time with his grandchildren. He loved four wheeling through the woods, picking wild onions, leeks and milkweeds, golfing and tending his garden. He had a deep respect for elders and a strong sense of community, always offering help to those in need.
He will be remembered for his intelligence, sharp wit and generous spirit. Gary was an amazing provider whose love, laughter and presence left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Gary is survived by his beloved son, Andrew Gibson; the mother of his children, Sherri Hill; his cherished grandchildren; brothers, Jerome “Dote” (Connie), Dale and Calvin; sisters, Maureen “Poody”, Laura (Tom), Sharon, and Mari (Mel); and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Calvin and Ruth Gibson; brothers, Calvin, John and Wesley ”Scat” Gibson; and sisters, Sheila “Sheedy” Dougherty and Cheryl “Bedite” Guilfoyle.
Cremation was handled by Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home.
As per Gary’s request, there will be no viewing or formal service. Instead, family and friends are invited to a celebration of life to honor Gary’s memory on July 29, 2025 at 1PM at the Onondaga Nation Arena.
Gary will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love her gave and the lives he touched.
