Neil O. Lanning

Neil O. Lanning, age 81, of Clayton, NC and formerly Marcellus, NY passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Born in Syracuse on July 10, 1945, Neil attended and graduated from Marcellus Central Schools. After school, Neil embarked in a couple of careers including farming and sales but for many years after worked at his brother’s general contracting company before moving to North Carolina and retiring.

Neil is survived by his spouse of 39 years, Karen Lanning; 3 children, Louis Lanning (Vicki), Dana Lanning (Kimberly), Neil Lanning (Melissa); 3 step-children, Tammy Casolare (Dan), Bryan Leonard (Christine), Jennifer Gwinn (David) and siblings Harold Lanning (Karol) and Fay Christensen (Pat). In addition, he leaves 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson & Laura Lanning.

Services will be private but a remembrance lunch will be scheduled for a future date. In lieu of flowers or other sentiments, donations to the Navarino Fire Department will be greatly appreciated.
