Nancy Ida Bernal
June 16, 1932 — June 6, 2025
Nancy Ida Bernal
Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother, favorite cook and baker, Nancy Ida Bernal (nee Mignano), age 92 passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025 at her residence at Morningstar of Boise assisted living facility, where she resided since moving to Idaho in 2021. She was the cherished wife of Richard Luis Bernal for 49 years before he passed in 2002.
Nancy was born June 16, 1932 in Monterey, CA. She was the second of three children born to Lawrence Mignano (1899-1979) and Ida Getschmann (1910-1985), along with her sister, Laura, and brother, Larry, who both predeceased her. Nancy graduated from Monterey Union High School in 1951, married Richard in 1952 and stayed on the Monterey Peninsula until 1957. She and Richard then moved to Santa Cruz, CA (1957-1963) with several more moves to be made after that - Los Angeles CA (1963-1964), Monterey Park CA (1965 -1992), Gold River CA (1992-2021), and finally to Boise ID (2021-2025).
Nancy applied her artistic talents to creating beautiful and unique custom mats and frames in an art gallery in Southern California for many years. She then employed her culinary skills in a bakery after moving to Northern California.
Nancy is survived by her children: Steven Bernal (Renee), Marty Bernal (Gwen), Carla Pelka (Ben) and Blaise Bernal (Beth) as well as three grandchildren: Michael, Roan, and Shane Bernal; sister-in-law, Karen Mignano, and seven nieces and nephews.
Nancy had a true love of God and her Catholic faith, family, country, cooking, gardening, art, music, and photography. She enjoyed many years of getting together with family and friends for meals, operas, concerts, tennis, shopping, travel, and other adventures, many of which were shared later in life with her dear friend, Oleg Kovalenko. She will be forever in our hearts and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Mass will be held at St Mel Catholic Church in Fair Oaks, CA on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 10:30am with a reception to follow. Final commitment will be with her beloved husband, Richard, at Calvary Cemetery in Citrus Heights, CA.
