September 30, 1923 — February 16, 2023
Dora Provencio Alvidrez died peacefully on February 16, 2023. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Daniel Alvidrez, and her son Daniel Alvidrez Jr. Dora is survived by her daughters
Gloria Dominguez (Elias) from Tucson, AZ, Yolanda Watson (Jim) from Aurora, CO and Barbara Aragon (Abe)
from Tucson, AZ. She has 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Dora was born in Las Cruces, NM, on September 30, 1923 to Thomas and Rafaela Provencio.
After she graduated from high school, she got married then moved to Tucson, AZ in
1942. There they raised their four children.
Dora retired from the University of Arizona after 20 years as a cashier in the Student Union.
Dora and Dan were avid fans of the University of Arizona Wildcats sports teams, basketball in
particular. They had season tickets to the basketball games since McKale Arena opened. She
loved reading the sports page to keep up with the TV schedules after she could no longer
attend.
She also loved baking and was known for her fruitcakes and Biscochos at Christmas. She was
fond of desserts and enjoyed everything sweet.
The family would like to thank all of her caregivers whose loving care made her comfortable in
her last days.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, March 7th at Adair-Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern
Avenue, Oro Valley, AZ from 1:00-3:00pm. The mass will be held on Wednesday, March 8th at
11:30am at St Odilia Catholic Church Hall, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson, AZ. 85704
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her honor to St Odilia Catholic Church to help with
their church roof repair. Donations can be mailed or made online at stodiliaparish.org.
