Kay Ann (Larson) Hayes

Kay was born March 23, 1957 to Wayne and Norm (Schnell) Larson of Potter, Nebraska.  The Larson families are pioneer immigrants to Potter area from 1887 and the Schnell family moved to Sidney in 1944 from Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Norma married Wayne Larson on November 13, 1954 in Las Vegas, NV and the family lived on the family farm until Wayne’s passing in 1982.  Kay attended 2 years of college after high school then moved to the Lincoln, NE area and was employed as a book keeper for an insurance company.  In 1979 she had had enough of the spring blizzards on her birthday and moved to Mesa, AZ to start and new life with Uncle Larry Watt and Aunt Jean (Larson) Watt (Wayne’s sister).

Kay and William met at Uncle Larry’s house in September 1979 and were married by a Justice of the Peace in Wickenburg, AZ December 16, 1980.  Kay worked as an Account, Bookkeeper and Chief Financial Officer for three companies until disability retirement in 2011.  William worked for the Arizona Game and Fish Department from March 1976 to June 2001 as a game ranger and regional fishery biologist. After his retirement he continued to work as a part time environmental consultant until Kay’s disability retirement.

They had two sons; Douglas (the older) went to a private graphic and video arts college in Tucson and graduated in December 2005 with a degree in graphic arts and animation.  He started his first job in Billings MT with a casino gaming company in the research and development department. He is still working for the company as one of the senior R&D members.  Michael chose to attend Wichita State University in Kansas and majored in broad cast communication and graduated in May 2010 with a bachelor degree in communication.  He moved to Billings MT in June 2011 and stated his first job with a CBS TV station in the advertising department. He met and married his wife Leah Vetch in October 2016 and she has moved with his career to CW 15 TV in Phoenix AZ, to Fox 10 in Beaverton OR and currently they are in Madison WI and he’s working for NBC station WMTV 15 as a senior video producer.

Kay is survived by her husband William Hayes and sons Douglas Wayne Hayes of Billings Mt and Michael William Hayes of Madison Wisconsin and his wife Leah (Vetch) Hayes and her brother Bruce Wayne Larson of Tucson Arizona.

Kay was preceded in death by parents Wayne and Norma and her sister Monica (Larson) Baker.

She has been cremated at Adair’s Funeral Home in Tucson.  A traditional celebration of life ceremony is scheduled on May 1st and the ceremony will be broadcast over social media by
