Sally Ann Swanson

March 24, 1943 — February 7, 2023

Sally A. Swanson, 79, died peacefully on February 7, 2023, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Sally was born and raised in Superior, Arizona, where she lived until moving to San Manuel, Arizona in 1955. She was Valedictorian of the San Manuel High School graduating class of 1961. Sally then attended Arizona State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She became a very gifted and well-respected teacher at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona where she taught Algebra and Geometry until her retirement after 30 years of teaching. Even after retirement, Sally continued her love of teaching with one-on-one tutoring for several years. Sally’s kindness and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew her. She was an avid baseball fan (Go Cubs!) and the ultimate dog and animal lover. Sally’s family was of utmost importance to her. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephew, especially if it involved camping or a Christmas tree trip to the mountains. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Alyce Swanson. She is survived by her brother, Doug Swanson, her sister, Nancy (Don) Epperson, her nieces, Sarah (Matthew) Almberg, Stephanie (Joseph) Brown, and her nephew, Scott (Renee) Swanson. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Adair Avalon Chapel 8090 N. Northern Avenue, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sally to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
