Irene Elenora Winge Munter

Irene Elenora Winge Munter was born January 1,1938 in Pukwana, South Dakota to Nellie Ilomena Thoreson Winge and Henry Kingwall Winge. She lived on homestead land with her parents, grandparents, and four brothers. They later moved to Kankakee, Il. In 1974. Irene and her husband moved to Tucson, Arizona, coming off the airplane with her winter coat and boots.. realizing quickly that she would no longer need them. She recalled preparing Thanksgiving meals with all the fixings in her new, warm climate that was much different than back home. She worked at Atria Valley House Nursing Home. She says it was the first hospice in Tucson. She loved working with the nuns. Eventually she transferred over to Valley Manor Retirement Apartments which were made for military retires. She held many positions over the years, starting out with housekeeping, cleaning and laundry. Later worked in the office, then held the title of Activity Director for many years and finally as a security guard at night. She struggled with health challenges that ultimately led to her limited mobility. She resided in Devon Gables for 6 years and was under Thema Hospice care for a short three weeks before passing away peacefully in her sleep on March 20th. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends, and everyone that knew her.
