Margaret Otter Street
May 31, 1924 — March 14, 2019
STREET, Margaret Otter 94, of Tucson passed away peacefully in the afternoon of March 14, 2019. Born in Evanston, IL in May 1924, Margaret (Marg, Marge) grew up on Chicago's north side in Glencoe; she graduated from North Shore Country Day School ('42), Smith College ('46, BA, Music) and City College of New York ('55, MA, Early Childhood Education). In 1956 Margaret moved from NYC to Connecticut, and then to Tucson in 1968. She was an avid lifelong outdoorswoman with strong interests in tennis, ice skating, hiking, birding, gardening and especially English horseback riding, which she taught from her Tucson home. A teacher at heart, she also gave piano lessons, and she surrounded herself with horses, dogs, cats, desert tortoises, birds, fish, and a variety of plants. Margaret was preceded in death by three older siblings, Josephine Gerlin, William Otter, and Richard Otter. Surviving family members include five nieces and nephews: William Otter, Jr. (Easley, SC), Suzanne Otter (San Antonio, TX), Kathleen Gunn (Indianapolis, IN), Marlene Hubbard (Bar Harbor, ME), and Tim Otter (Caldwell, ID), as well as many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews. Private graveside services will be held in Chicago later this spring. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Dependable Hospice, c/o The Foundation for New Beginnings, 1141 N. El Dorado Pl., Ste. 300, Tucson, AZ 87515. Arrangements by Adair Dodge.
