David Christopher Mitchell
February 2, 1950 — May 24, 2026
It's with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved David Mitchell, who departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 76. David was born on February 2, 1950, in the small, close-knit community of Eaton, Colorado. He lived a life marked by love, service, and unwavering generosity.
David was a cherished son of his mother, Frances Jaramillo Escajeda, who preceded him in death, alongside his sisters and brothers; Frances Donehoo, Marshlyn Rogers, Ben Manzanares, and Roger Manzanares.
He spent his formative years in Eaton, where he developed a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, which he carried with him throughout his journey.
David answered the call of duty in 1968 and served his country with honor in the United States Navy. His time in the service further instilled in him a profound sense of responsibility and camaraderie, qualities that he embodied throughout his life.
David married the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Mitchell, with whom he shared a beautiful and devoted marriage of 50 years. Their union was blessed with two sons, Aaron and Curtis Mitchell, who were the pride and joy of his life.
David was a dedicated employee of the City of Greeley, where he worked for over 35 years. His commitment, reliability, and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike. Outside of his professional life, David found solace and joy in the great outdoors. You could find him at the baseball fields either coaching or umpiring throughout his life. He also enjoyed time spent fishing with Aaron and Nick. Dave also relished the lively banter of a good card game with all his friends, where his quick wit and warm smile could light up any room.
Known for his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, David's kindness and generosity were legendary. He had a remarkable gift for lifting spirits with a well-timed joke, and his infectious laughter brought comfort and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and a life well-lived.
David leaves behind; his beloved wife Sandy, his sons Aaron and Curtis, his daughter-in-law Melisa, his treasured granddaughter Delaney, and his siblings; Lynda Moreno, Joseph Mitchell, Candice Morrissey, Jose Morado, and Sylvia Anthony, who will forever carry forward his memory and the lessons of love he imparted.
Though he leaves behind a void that can never be filled, the echoes of his laughter and the strength of his spirit will remain with us always.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate David's life on June 9th, 2026, from 4-5pm at the Adamson Life Celebration Home, located at 2000 47th Ave, Greeley, CO 80634

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
As we gather to honor David, we are reminded by his family of the words from Philippians 4:13, "I have the strength for everything through the power of him who empowers me." May these words bring comfort and strength to all who mourn his passing. David’s light will forever shine in our hearts, and his legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
