Douglas Lee "Doug" Musser
Jul 16, 1956 — Jan 11, 2026
Douglas Lee (“Doug”) Musser, late of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passed away on January 11, 2026, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, South Dakota, following a fall. He died with his wife, Nancy, by his side
Doug was born on July 16, 1956, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He graduated from
Weldon Valley School in 1974, after which he attended Lamar Community College. After studying Agricultural education for two years, Doug left college and began working on a ranch in Deeth, Nevada. From there, he moved back to Weldona to help run his family’s dairy and farm. He then went on to work for Craig Kroskob in custom farming. In 2001, he shifted to Booth Land and Livestock, where he initially drove a cattle truck before transferring to their farm/feedlot at Milliken. Doug remained at Booth's farm until his retirement in 2022. Following his move to South Dakota, Doug became involved in the rural water system and was set to join its board this fall.
Doug married Nancy Ward in Goodrich, Colorado, on October 23, 1994.
Doug was a handy guy he could, and did, turn his hand to carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing, Doug was especially proud of building an office and restroom in the shop he and Nancy purchased in 2022.
Naturally sociable and curious, Doug never met a stranger or took a road he didn't like. He often took detours off the highway to explore small-town museums, zoos, and back roads, and to Nancy he was the best travel companion — he could always find his way, always knew what direction he was going, and never said no to trying something different. Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing, though not hiking, and he also loved family history research. His compassion had no limits, and it extended to animals as well as people: after finding sheep left behind when a local sheep camp moved on, he began raising them himself.
Doug is survived by his wife, Nancy Musser, née Ward; his brothers, Kendall, Tim, and Steward (Charlie); and his nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Musser and Winona Musser, née Holly; his grandparents, Henry and Thelma Musser, and John and Margaret Holly. A celebration of life for Doug will take place on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 am at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave, Greeley, CO 80634, followed by a light lunch. The family invites those who knew and loved Doug to consider a donation to a charity of their choice.
