Elaine Uhrig, 87, of Greeley, CO died April 12, 2017 in Greeley.
Elaine was born December 29, 1929 in Longmont, CO to Lloyd and Josephine (Woolley) Pierce.
She graduated from Longmont High School in 1947, graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in music from Colorado State College of Education (UNC), moved to Sterling, CO and taught music in the public schools. She received her Masters Degree from Colorado State College (UNC) in Special Education with an emphasis on vision and hearing in 1964, received her Doctorate Degree in Special Education in 1975 from University of Northern Colorado. She worked at the University Lab School teaching deaf children for a number of years, then transferred to UNC teaching Special Education at the college level till her retirement in 1987.
Elaine married Alfred Uhrig on October 18, 1953 in Longmont. She was a member of St Johns United Church of Christ, a 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star, UNC Emeritus Faculty Association and Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was an avid reader, enjoyed game shows and the Denver Broncos.
Elaine is survived by her daughter Annie (Stacy) Bryant of Cheyenne, WY, grandchildren Tiffany Uhrig of Brighton CO, David (Dawn) Uhrig and step great grandchildren Damien, Haden, Zakery Roberts of Greeley and her sister JoAnne Shettler of Lakewood, CO.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred and sons Doug and Gary.
Funeral Service 10:00a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at Adamson Chapel with viewing one hour prior. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Star Scholarship Fund in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
