Robert Harvey Gettman, 90, of Greeley, CO passed away May 12, 2011 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit.
He was born March 4, 1921 in Greeley to Henry and Marie (Widerspahn) Gettman.
Robert attended schools in Greeley and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943. Bob served over seas during WWII and fought in Iwo Jima. He was stationed in Guam. After the war he came back to Greeley and began working as a mechanic.
On July 3, 1939 he married Elizabeth Shearer in Denver, CO.
Bob loved oil painting. He was a self taught painter and would always feature an animal in his work. He enjoyed painting nature landscapes and was an extremely talented painter. He loved to bow hunt, fish, and even made his own bows. Bob was a craftsman in the truest sense.
He was a proud long time member of the Greeley Seventh Day Adventist Church and Greeley VFW Post 2121.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Annette Fox of Evans and Marlene (Tom) Haberman of Greeley; his son, Samuel (Beverly) of Prescott, AZ; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Ruth Bernstien and Lucille Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Rex; two sisters; and three brothers.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Adamson Chapel. Funeral Service 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Adamson Chapel, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
Memorial Contributions may be made to "Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado” in care of Adamson Funeral and Cremation Services 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
