Lewis "Lew" Wesley Roland
November 28, 1933 - June 14, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis "Lew" Wesley Roland, aged 91, who departed this life peacefully in Annandale, Virginia, .
Lew was a devoted family man, married to his beloved wife, Maxene Peace, for an incredible 68 years. Together, they raised two sons, Dan (Yvonne) and Edward (Maxine), who will carry forward his values and spirit. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Geoffrey (Andrea), Matthew (Heather), Nikki, and Keith, and his nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
A proud member of the Local #77 of the Operating Engineers, Lew dedicated over 60 years to the craft, earning the respect of his peers as a lifetime member of the International Operating Engineers of America. His work was not just a career; it was a source of pride and stories that he loved to share, detailing his days in construction and the intricate world of politics. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Lew was an active member of his community. He was a past Worshipful Master of Elmer Timberman Lodge #54 in Annandale and served as past Chapter Dad of the John Blair Chapter Order of DeMolay.
Lew also proudly served as a Specialist 3rd Class in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army infantry in Germany and France during the Korean War, a chapter of his life he held dear. Lew was a passionate fan of Washington's baseball and football teams, often embracing the excitement of their games, whether at home or with friends. His warmth, humor, and storytelling will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A viewing will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, June 19, followed by Masonic services at 7:30 PM, and a funeral service on Friday, June 20, at 11 AM, both at Friendship United Methodist Church, located at 3527 Gallows Road, Falls Church, VA. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Mahaffey, PA, on Sunday, June 22, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Lew's name to the Autism Society of America at autismsociety.org/donate.
Lew will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, his love for his family, and his unwavering commitment to his community. He leaves behind not just a family but a legacy of kindness and support that will endure.
