Ann Elizabeth Wilson
September 21, 1950 — April 2, 2025
In the grand tapestry of life, few threads shine as brightly as those of Ann Elizabeth Wilson—a woman of remarkable spirit, astonishing wit, and unfaltering love. Born in the vibrant city of Philadelphia, PA, she embarked on her journey through life with a determined stride that carried her from her academic pursuits at Howard University, where she earned both her undergraduate degree and her law degree, to over four decades of dedicated service with the DC Government as a Hearing Examiner in the Department of Employment Services.
Ann was not just a relentless hard worker and intelligent trailblazer; she was also known for her kindness and her generous spirit. Truly, she was a powerhouse dressed in laughter, forever casting a spell of positivity around her, whether while navigating the complexities of employment law or her beloved crime shows on TV. Her knack for turning even the most mundane moments into cherished memories was unmatched.
She found profound joy in her family, relishing the irreplaceable moments spent with her daughter Layla, her sons Makin and Riyad, as well as her grandchildren, Kallay and Kai, and her bonus son Kabie. There were days when the beach beckoned for fun family outings, and evenings filled with delicious meals at Red Lobster or Silver Diner, where the laughter flowed as freely as the butter sauce. Ann’s greatest joy came from picking up Kallay from school or his extracurricular activities—those moments were her gold.
In addition to raising children, she was a proud sister and aunt, leaving a legacy of love with her brother Henry, nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family, friends, and coworkers who will miss her dearly. Preceded in death by her devoted parents, Carey and Henry Wilson, Ann leaves behind her former husband, Rashid, and a family forever impacted by her benevolent influence.
Her passing on April 2, 2025, in Silver Spring, MD, leaves a void that cannot be filled but also countless stories of joy and laughter that can bridge the silence. So, let us remember Ann not with sadness but with a twinkle in our eyes, knowing she wouldn’t have it any other way. Raise a glass, tell a joke, and share a laugh—just how she would want it—as we honor the extraordinary life of Ann Elizabeth Wilson.
