Graylin Riley
April 2, 1950 — March 17, 2026
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Graylin Riley, who transitioned on March 17, 2026, just two weeks shy of his 76th birthday.
Born on April 2, 1950, Graylin—affectionately known as “Ronald” in his younger years—lived a life rich in stories, laughter, and deep family roots. About ten years ago, he returned to the name Graylin, embracing it fully, just as he embraced life—on his own terms.
Graylin was a true sports fanatic, with a special love for basketball. In his eyes, no team could ever top his beloved New York Knicks. Win or lose, he stood by them with unwavering loyalty—just as he stood by the people he loved.
And oh, could he talk. Graylin had a gift for storytelling, often weaving together memories of the family who shaped him. He spoke with deep love of his grandmother, Ruth, who adored him; his grandfather, Moses, who cared for him; his mother, Pauline, whom he loved beyond measure; and his father, Carleton, Sr., who taught him about life. Through his words, he kept their legacy alive, threading their stories into his own and passing them on to the next generation. Because of him, the circle of family never broke—it only grew stronger.
Although he did not regularly attend church, Graylin loved Christ and was a follower of Jesus. He had a special way of bringing the Word to life—taking stories from the New Testament and retelling them with a modern-day twist that made them relatable, memorable, and often unforgettable. His faith was not just something he spoke about—it was something he carried in his heart and shared in his own unique way.
Though many may not have known it, Graylin also had a quiet love for photography. It showed up in the most personal way—through the funny, spontaneous selfies he would send to family, little snapshots of joy that will now be treasured forever.
Graylin had a way about him—everyone who met him liked him. His warmth, humor, and genuine spirit made people feel at ease, as if they had known him for years. He didn’t just make connections—he made lasting impressions.
Graylin was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Ruth; grandfather, Moses; mother, Pauline; and father, Carleton, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Kareem Riley; his devoted sister, Sonya Riley; his brother, Carleton Riley; his two nieces who were like daughters to him, Rhonda Williams and Ericca Williams; his nephew, Malik Cooper (Charmaine); along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and countless friends whose lives were brighter because of him.
Though he is no longer with us in body, Graylin’s voice, his laughter, his stories, and his love will live on in all who knew him. Every memory shared, every story retold, and every smile sparked by the thought of him keeps his spirit alive.
We celebrate a life well lived, a man well loved, and a legacy that will never fade.
“You can’t measure a life by time alone—only by the love, the stories, and the lives you leave behind.” -Armin Houman
