Mary Dolores Peterson
March 24, 1933 — May 14, 2026
Mary “Dolores” Peterson passed away on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many memories she created throughout a life well lived.
Dolores was born March 24, 1933, in Brighton, Iowa, the daughter of Orie and Katherine (Davidson) DeWolfe. After graduating from high school, she received her bachelor’s degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Later, Dolores attended the University of Denver where she earned her master's degree in education. She married Alan H. Peterson on June 7, 1955, in Moline, Illinois.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and strength touched all who knew her. She shared 70 years of marriage with her beloved husband, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and caring for others.
Throughout her professional life, Dolores worked as a 2nd grade teacher in Rantoul, Illinois for 3 years and later taught at Headstart in Denver for 17 years. After retirement, she found a new interest in painting vigorously and taught art classes. Dolores also volunteered for New Beginnings and visited the women’s prison once a week for several years.
Dolores enjoyed the mountains, hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and camping. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Dolores enjoyed gathering with family, celebrating life’s milestones, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Her caring spirit, gentle wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Alan Peteson; two sons, Bradley and Mark Peterson; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylee Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to All States Cremation in Colorado. Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings through Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
