Michael R Sena Sr

August 10, 1939 — August 14, 2025

Mike Sena Sr., born August 10, 1939, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2025, at the age of 86.

Known on the streets of Denver as “Bobo,” Mike was a self-taught musician, singer and last surviving member of the 1950s band The Teen Notes—a five-member group formed by saxophone player Joe Lopez. The band played regularly on Denver Bandstand and made history as the first Hispanic band to appear on The Leo Pepper Show. It was during this exciting chapter of his life that he met his wife, Ramona, at one of his many gigs.

Though he eventually left the band to focus on his family and career, Mike’s love for music never faded. He sang and played piano throughout his life, captivating friends and family at gatherings, karaoke nights, and open mics—always bringing the house down. His charisma, humor, and charm were second to none.

Mike dedicated more than 30 years to the Denver Public Schools, working in a variety of roles. He often took on night shifts and extra hours to ensure his two children could attend private Catholic schools for both elementary and high school.

A passionate Colorado sports fan, Mike had a long-running love–hate relationship with the Broncos. However, he eventually was able to celebrate three Broncos Super Bowl victories, three Avalanche Stanley Cups, and—at last—a Nuggets championship.

He never missed a practice, play, game, field day, dance recital, or special event for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always the loudest man in the crowd, Mike took great pride in his family’s accomplishments and worked tirelessly to provide them with everything he never had.

Mike is survived by his daughter Lisa Ann; his son Mike Jr. and wife Jennifer Sena; his grandchildren Ocean, Aspen and her husband Matt Hodecker, Michael III, Presley, and Ryan; and his great-grandchildren Gabriella, Robbie, Dominic, and Jamison. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife Ramona, his brothers Joseph and Mario, and his twin sister Helen. Even in his final months, time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.

His humor, singing, and magic tricks will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved giving—and especially receiving—gifts, and within minutes of any holiday or birthday could always be heard shouting, “Present time!”
