Margie Ann Cooper
August 12, 1933 — March 22, 2025
To the world you are a mom, but to our family, you are the world. We love you mom.
Margie Ackerman Cooper, age 91, was called home to be with the Lord during the morning of March 22nd, 2025. Margie was born to George Ackerman and Lena Hubbard Ackerman in August of 1933 in Evans Colorado along with her paternal twin Marvin “Bud” Ackerman. Margie lived with her family in Johnstown, Colorado where she graduated from high school in 1951. She attended business college in Denver where she met Irene Cooper. Irene introduced Margie to her brother A. G. Tolbert Cooper during a Thanksgiving trip home to her family farm near Dorrance, Kansas. A romance blossomed between Tolbert and Margie prompting her to move to Russell, Kansas. Margie lived in an apartment with Irene and Irene and Tolbert's sister Nancy. Margie worked for an oil company as a secretary in Russell. Her romance with Tolbert continued and they were married in Wilson, Kansas on November 22, 1952. Margie and Tolbert moved into a “Pumper’s House” which had been purchased and moved onto the Cooper farm. The Pumper’s House had been used on the oil fields and was now transformed into their family home. They were blessed with their first child Marcy Cooper Younkerman in December of 1960. The creation of the Wilson Dam by the Army Corps of Engineers flooded much of the family pastureland so Tolbert and Margie decided to set off for the Denver area and the Rocky Mountains in 1963. Margie was pregnant with their second child at the time, and they welcomed Tod Cooper into the world in May of 1964. They welcomed their third child, Troy Cooper, into the world in August of 1968. Margie continued work in the secretarial field working for Gardner Denver, Physicians Mutual, and Eagle Claw. She concluded her career with Mountain States Employers Council starting in 1983 and retiring in 1997. Margie was deeply committed to her family, children and grandchildren throughout her life. She had a knack for knowing where all her family was and what they were doing all the time. Especially when we were traveling or away from home. Tolbert and Margie remained in the same home until Tolbert’s health required that they move to assisted living in 2015. Tolbert passed on March 24th, 2016. Margie moved between her family’s homes and lived on her own in a senior living apartment. Margie passed at Troy’s home while in hospice care. She always wanted to pass in her home surrounded by family. We are blessed that she got her wish.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband A. G. Tolbert Cooper, her parents, and seven siblings. They were her dear twin brother Marvin “Bud” Ackerman along with Howard, Harold and Harvey; and three sisters, Lucielle Dreith, Opal Miller Thumlert and Donna Boe. Margie is survived by daughter and son-in-law Marcy and Gary Younkerman of Broomfield, son and daughter-in-law Tod and Lisa Cooper of Arvada, son and daughter-in-law Troy Cooper and Jennifer Corsentino of Thornton; five grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Monica Younkerman of Arvada, Carly Younkerman of Broomfield, Sarah Cooper of Brush, Luke Cooper and his wife Erica of Greeley, Taylor Cooper of Brush, and Rylee Cooper of Ft. Collins. She is also survived by her dear friend and sister-in-law, Sonya Ackerman of Vancouver Washington.
