Brian Retrum

November 13, 1992 — September 5, 2025

Joseph Alan Lamoureaux (Brian Joseph Retrum) was born at Denver General Hospital on Friday November 13, 1992 and passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025 in Lakewood/Applewood, Colorado.

He was born to Kathryn Sioux Lamoureaux (Katie Sioux) and Gregory Liby, both originally from Salina, KS. They both attend Central High School in Salina but met at their respective after school jobs.

Brian was and always will be a deeply loved miracle. He was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck four times. The doctor said at the time that he shouldn’t have survived. There was zero amniotic fluid left. He was born on Friday the 13th into a world of chaos. Love, compassion, beauty, and laughter followed him everywhere he went. He was such a beautiful soul. Strangers were just friends he hadn’t met yet.

Unfortunately, he lived with a deep depression that no one knew about  No was was ready for him to leave this world, but sadly it was the choice he made.

Brian was an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux / Sicangu Lakota tribe on his mother’s side. His ancestors formed a long line of warriors.

Brian was very athletic and lettered in Lacrosse. He was the team captain and was quite brilliant. He graduated from high school a year early.

He seemed to be good at everything he attempted, but his true skill was as an arborist. He definitely had little interest in any other profession. It certainly fit well with the extreme thrill-seeking part of his nature. Brian loved the mountains and being outside. He was a skilled skateboarder and snowboarder.

When he was sixteen he met Brittany, the love of his life. Their love was deep and intense and they were engaged to be married. Brittany is such a beautiful, smart, compassionate, strong woman who will carry on his love for their children Miah and Bryson who Brian lovingly referred to as Miah Bear and Bison Bryson

Brian grew up in Applewood, Colorado with his adoptive parents, John and Brenda Retrum and an older brother, Jack, who will soon be a father himself. They loved him deeply and cared for him very much.

The world without Brian is not as bright, warm, or happy. His family, especially his mother, Katie, will always miss hearing him play the guitar. He was an exceptional man.

Brian is preceded in death by his grandfather, Clement Donald Lamoureaux, and many others who made their journey before him.

Please check on your loved ones. Don’t accept “I’m fine”, too many amazing people have taken their own lives, especially when they relapse and feel they’ve disappointed everyone and ruined everything. Reassure they’re loved no matter what.
