John Edward Carlson
February 26, 1937 — April 10, 2026
John “Jack” Edward Carlson was born in the Bronx, New York, on February 26, 1937. He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1956 and served for six years with Coast Guard Group Pier 9 in New York. Following his service, Jack built a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry, working in sales and marketing.
In 1960, Jack was introduced to Ann Mary Golunka through mutual friends, and they married in 1962. Jack and his beloved Ann shared 54 years of marriage until her passing in 2017.
Jack often traveled the world for his work, and Ann joined him on many of those adventures. They eventually settled in Colorado, where they lived for more than 40 years and lovingly cared for many Basset Hound rescues. Jack remained devoted to Ann throughout his life.
A prolific poet, Jack often wrote verses to and about Ann, including the following poem, “A Place for Me”:
There’s a place for me, Just where I want to be. Now I can take the ride, with Ann by my side. Next to my beautiful wife, now we can start a new life. We have everything to gain, Free from suffering and pain. My classy lady, who I love so much, I long to feel your tender touch. So baby, have no fear, Jack is here.
Jack is survived by his son, John William Carlson of Arvada, Colorado, as well as his siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Green Mountain Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
