John Hauser

January 9, 1945 — July 27, 2017

For those who believe in living life to the fullest, in the present, one day at a time, Jack Hauser was a shining example. He savored every moment as precious and unique and trusted that life would unfold in its own good time, revealing itself as he needed to know it. Jack, named after his uncle who gave his life in World War II, was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, on January 9, 1945. He grew up in a neighborhood of children who played outdoors until it got dark and rode bikes all over the small town of Matawan, NJ. Family vacations were spent at the Jersey shore or in Ontario, fishing being the primary activity in both places. When his family moved to Maryland, golfing took the place of fishing. He attended schools in Matawan, New Jersey, Silver Spring, MD and Wellesley, MA, and graduated from high school in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from The Citadel in Charleston, SC, in 1968. Later that same year, Jack went to work for Western Electric Co. (later Lucent Technologies) in New Jersey, and relocated to the Denver area plant in 1970. He was a manager for 31 years and took advantage of a company-wide offer to retire in 2000. After retirement, he worked occasionally delivering Express mail to post offices, which he enjoyed. Jack was an enviable golfer who was constantly beseeched by friends, co-workers and acquaintances to join them in a round. He played golf regularly while he was working, but mostly swapped the sport for other recreational pursuits after he retired. In December, 1980, Jack invited God as he understood Him into his life, and his spiritual path was set. He kept it simple, asking God for help without fanfare. He was a private person, always respecting others’ beliefs. In 1986, Jack and his wife, Laurie, bought a ranch house on 2 acres in Brighton, CO. Upon his retirement, he happily adjusted to a busy schedule of caring for his home and land, and outright enjoying life. He embraced the outdoors and environment eagerly, and the west was the place for him. He loved to fly fish for trout, especially in the San Juan River of New Mexico, hunt various birds, especially turkeys, go on hikes and other adventures with friends and family, and travel all over the southwest with his wife. New Mexico was the couple’s special passion, including the art and Native American history. He was thrilled that he and Laurie also made some good hikes in Colorado and Utah, especially a vigorous one in 2015 in Horseshoe Canyon to view the “Holy Ghost” pictographs which are up to 9,000 years old. After a 6 month vigorous battle with lung cancer, Jack made a peaceful transition from this life on July 27, 2017, at his home outdoors under a shade tree. He was 72 years old. Jack leaves behind his wife and devoted life and soul partner of 34 years, Laurie Bouche Hauser, a sister Carolyn Hauser Hudson from Bowie, MD, two brothers in law, Erick Wilson and Steve Hill of Broomfield, CO, and several beloved nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lorraine M. Hauser (Hulshart) and James H. Hauser and a sister-in-law, Linda Wilson Woodyard and brother-in-law, Phil Hudson.
