Wayne is survived by his wife, Karen, sons, Sean, Todd and Aaron presently in Littleton, CO. His sister, Jessie Mast of Reedsport, Oregon. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joy and Michael Radford. His Grandparents, Jessie and Robert Young.
Wayne worked for Lane County Sherriff’s department in Eugene, Oregon, Cannonville Oregon Police Department, Gates Rubber Company, Denver, CO, King Soopers security, Denver Coroner’s office and he started Radford’s investigative Security Service and retired as a Investigator for the State of Colorado, pursuing escaped youth from the Youth Protection.
Wayne was involved in his boys activities growing up, coaching baseball and was an avid fan for their soccer and football games.
Wayne became involved in the Boy Scouts of America with his sons, even remaining after they left. He was remembered as Chief Rising Son for his Arrow of Light ceremonies throughout the Denver Area council. He touched the lives of many youth and also adult leaders as he was in charge of the Youth Protection Program. He also served as PowWow Chairman for the Denver Area Council. He served on WoodBadge courses as a coach counselor and a lead coach counselor. He is remembered that on one of the courses he was suffering from severe pain from gall stones but stubborn as he was he completed the 7 day course and then had his galbadder surgery a few days later. Scouting was one of his great loves and he had to give it up due to his illnesses. He will be solely missed by his scouting friends who were touched by his leadership, training, kindness and generosity. There was nothing he would not do for others.
Wayne will also be remembered for his painting talents at Children’s Hospital. He painted large cabinets for the storage of art supplies with their own themes, like butterflies, flowers, horses, etc for all 8 floors of the hospital. However his biggest contribution was painting pictures for the terminally ill children and their families. He had them pick their favorite characters and painted around the space for the child’s picture in the center. This gave the child and families great joy in a time of struggle.
Through all of the years of Wayne’s extended illness, he never forgot the support he received from his friends and family. All of us will have good, bad, or funny memories that will be forever in our hearts. May he always be looking down at us with smiles and guiding us through our sunny and stormy days.
Donations may be made in his memory to Porter Hospice, Children’s Hospital, Boy Scouts of America or to his family to help with growing costs.
