Willie Folkerts

July 30, 1929 — February 25, 2012

Willie Mae Folkerts, daughter of Anna Mae Barrett and William Heath, born on July 30, 1927 in San Antonio passed away on February 25, 2012 at the age of 84 in Denver, CO. Mrs. Folkerts was a lifelong teacher and student. She taught high school in San Antonio and Valley Mills and once retired, taught Shakespeare and Great Books at the Academy of Learning in Retirement in San Antonio. Her love of learning was endless as she travelled the globe (Egypt, Russia, and Iran to name a few places) and attended Cambridge University for a few summers. Her thirst for life, love, literature, and learning was infectious, and she touched many people with her joy in those pursuits. Her other steadfast loves included those of family, friends, dogs, and, of course, the movies. Mrs. Folkerts is survived by her three children: Daughter, Dr. Jody Fitzpatrick; Daughter, Gaye Naman and husband Paul; and Daughter, Raheleh Folkerts and partner Julie Rysenga. Grandchildren: Barrett Naman and wife Erin; Samantha Stone and husband Daniel; Anna Edelson, and Zachary Edelson; and great-grandchild, Riley Naman. To quote her favorite Shakespeare soliloquy “We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep.” Condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care in her name and for personal acknowledgement you may sign the guest book.
