James Roy Egbert

October 13, 1939 — April 4, 2026

Jim Egbert, 86, passed away on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Spokane, WA, Jim graduated top of his high school class and decided to pursue a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington. He long maintained that he chose electrical engineering simply because he didn’t understand it. That curiosity fueled an engineering career that started at Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He continued with multiple engineering roles in Minnesota, and ultimately found his calling in Colorado Springs, where he retired from Hewlett-Packard after 20 years of service in 1999. As devoted leader in the Colorado Springs community, Jim served as a church elder and deacon. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for 6 years on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Pikes Peak Rural Transit Authority and El Paso County Planning Commission. Yet his greatest legacy is his faith and his family. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Marlis; his children, Aaron, Michelle (Vic), Keri (Brian), and Todd (April); his 12 grandchildren, Sarah, Gregory, Timothy, Rachael, Gabe, Alexa, Christopher, Abigale, Nate, Trent, Benjamin, and Katherine; his 4 great-grandchildren, Lucia, Sam, Birdie, and a baby boy on the way; his brother, Hal (Mary Ann); and his nieces and nephews, Eric, Lisa, Janet, Julie, Jessica, John, Laura, Allison, Dustin, and Kiel. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry, grandson baby James, and his parents, Veda and Harold.
