Paul Frederick Homman

Paul Frederick Homman, 88, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on September 21, 2025, from complications of dementia. Born on September 4, 1937, in Zanesville, Ohio, Paul was the son of Henry Melvin Homman and Lillian Cylo Clark.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather who loved his family deeply and lived his life in service to both his loved ones and his country. He married the love of his life, Ruth, and together they shared 68 years of marriage filled with adventure, hard work, and unwavering partnership.

After graduating from high school, Paul joined the U.S. Navy, where he trained as an electronics technician. His military career later continued with the Air National Guard, where he was asked to remain due to his exceptional marksmanship. Paul ranked annually in the prestigious “Governor’s Top Twenty” shooting competition, a point of great pride. He retired from military service after 23 years.

Paul’s professional life was just as remarkable. Following his military career, he worked as a corporate pilot for Warner Gear, electronics technician for Magnavox and the Federal Aviation Administration. Along the way, he wore many hats working more than one job simultaneously: flight instructor and ground schoolteacher at Illinois Central College in Peoria, Illinois; firefighter; and sworn police officer in Peoria Illinois.

Paul loved cooking, making wine, machining in his home shop, and taking on renovation projects with Ruth as they moved from home to home, transforming each one with meticulous care before starting the next adventure. His favorite passion was competitive shooting, which he especially enjoyed sharing with his eldest grandson, Matthew, during his retirement years.

Paul had a special way with children. His joy, especially around gift‑giving, was contagious. Christmas mornings were made brighter by Paul’s excitement, matching that of his grandchildren as he delighted in both giving and receiving.

In his last years he most enjoyed time with his wife in Show Low rocking on his porch swing and sharing wonderful life stories, always with a good sense of humor.

Paul was preceded in death by his eldest son, Matthew; his parents; and his four sisters, Vonda (Delmar), Wilma, Patricia (Jim), and Janet (Richard).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his daughter, Laura (Roman); his son, Michael (Tammy); eleven grandchildren; and eight great‑grandchildren. Paul’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched through his service, his generosity, and his deep love for family.

The family will celebrate Paul’s life with a private service at a later time.
