Scott Sternberg

Oct 4, 1984 — Oct 7, 2022

Scott Louis Sternberg, loving husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away on October 7, 2022 in Los Angeles, California from a sudden cardiac episode. He was 38 years old. Scott lives on through his wife Katie, parents Les and Susan, and sister Lindsay.

Scott was born on October 4, 1984 in Plantation, Florida. He was a perfect brother, cousin, nephew, and son. Playtime consisted of him teaching school-like lessons to his sister and cousins. He even assigned homework and kept their grades in a teacher's gradebook. Scott happily helped at his aunts', uncles', parents', and grandparents' businesses. He received a real cash register one Christmas and never failed to mention, well into adulthood, how that was his favorite toy.

As many classmates, colleagues, and friends will remember, Scott was incredibly smart. He made lasting and close friends through the International Baccalaureate program at Deerfield Beach High School. He went on to attend the University of Southern California where he received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics and a Master of Public Policy. While a student, Scott worked as a Residential Advisor in the dormitories, which is how he met some of his closest friends.

Upon graduating from USC, Scott remained deeply engaged with the university. He served on a young alumni council, alumni club board, and alumni regional council. He was President of the Alumni Club of Los Angeles for seven years and served two terms on the Alumni Association's Board of Governors. For his dedication and service, USC presented Scott with the Alumni Association President's Award, Widney Alumni House Volunteer Award, and Volunteer Organization of the Year. Scott also enjoyed being a Dornsife Gateway Mentor every year and never passed on an opportunity to mentor more students and new alumni.

Scott had great passion for his work. He was an Economic Litigation Consultant and Expert Witness with Berkeley Research Group for 12 years. His colleagues referred to him as a "boy wonder" for his innate ability to make sense out of any dataset, no matter how complex. Scott took pride in being an expert witness on a growing number of cases, and his written testimony was recently cited in a decision by the California First District Court of Appeal.

Scott met his wife Katie in 2016. They were married in 2019 and bought their first home in 2021 in Highland Park. Scott and Katie were rarely apart. They loved traveling together - to 14 states and made it to France for their honeymoon. They just returned from a birthday trip to New York City. They liked exploring new restaurants, craft beer, and artisan ice cream with their friends. In the same spirit of togetherness, Scott and Katie kept each other accountable. One of the last things they did was push each other through one of their usual HIIT workouts at their favorite gym they discovered together.

There will be a service to celebrate Scott and his life in November. Please go to the "Events" tab for more details. While we do not expect anything more than for you to keep Scott in your hearts, you may check out the "Give" tab or contact Sabrina Hong ([email protected]) for more ways to support the family.

Thank you for loving and remembering Scott. Please feel free to share those memories and stories on the "Tributes" tab. Let us continue to keep him in our thoughts and hearts.
