Jacquelyn L. Spilker, 91, passed away peacefully in Viera, Florida on 5 May 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years – LTC Wayne E. Spilker, USA (Ret). Jackie was born in Newton Centre, Massachusetts to the late Arthur and Marguerite Lucier. Jackie was the youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother Arthur Lucier Jr., Brother-in-Law William Fagan, her niece Nancy Eshelman and nephew Richard Fagan. Her sister Antoinette Fagan still resides on Merritt Island, FL. After graduating from High School in Newton, Jackie was accepted to University of Miami, FL. where she met and fell in love with Wayne E. Spilker. They were married in 1951 and embarked on a wonderful 30 year U.S. Army military career and lifestyle. Jackie loved the military. Jackie had a first child, a daughter (Deborah Lee), two years later while stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. She had a son (Wayne Eugene Jr.) two years later at Yokosuka, Japan. And finally, two years later, had another son (Mark Alan) while stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Her role in support of her husband also took her to several other locations including Ft. Eustis, Virginia, as well as Berlin, Germany, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and Ft. Belvoir, VA. She twice held down her family while her husband served two separate tours of duty in Vietnam. She joined a podiatrist practice in Northern Virginia and excelled in running the office and managing the insurance work. Jackie ensured her children grew up Catholic and insisted they participate in religious, academic, music, scouts and sports activities - while providing all the driving necessary for the constant meetings, practices, games and ceremonies. She was successful in helping to send all three of her children through college. She finished up her military career with her husband while supporting U.S. Army DCS OPS at the Pentagon in 1979. She moved to Merritt Island, Florida and quickly joined the Newcomer Club and immediately started enjoying the Florida lifestyle and golfing with her husband and new friends. Jackie’s survivors include her daughter Deborah (Greg) Lauren, with three grandchildren Rebecca (Edel) Alvarez and a great grandchild, Lydia (Brian) Phillips and a great grandchild, Emma (Knute) Nathe and four great grandchildren, her son Wayne (Karen) with one grandchild Courtney (Corey) Thomasson and a step great grandchild), and her son Mark (Deborah) with two grandchildren –Jonathan (Brianna) and a great grandchild as well as Quentin (Courtney). Jackie is also survived by four nephews and countless great and great-great nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be at a future date during a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
