John E. Da Silva
June 7, 1936 — April 12, 2026
John E. Da Silva, age 90, passed away on April 12, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1936, in San Fernando, Trinidad.
John began his journey at sea at a young age, serving in the merchant marines. Over the years, he built a proud and skilled career as a master welder, working at Cardell’s Dry Dock in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, he managed crews of many men and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his career, John embraced life with joy. He loved going to bet on the horses, riding his lawnmower, dancing, and listening to music—especially Frank Sinatra and calypso.
John married Rita James Ferreira in Trinidad, and they later traveled to America to create better opportunities for their family. Later in life he was also married to Lazina Khan.
He is survived by his two sons, Julio and Aldonio; his cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey, Justin, Jonathan, and Juliana; and his siblings Candi, Patsy, and Margarita.
He was a loving, caring, and generous man who had a natural ability to learn and master anything he set his mind to.
John will be remembered for his dedication, warmth, and quiet strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
