In Loving Memory of Robin L. Gutridge

Robin Lovelace Gutridge passed away on October 14, 2025. She was born on September 23, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Thomas Lee and Beverly Jane (Hahn) Lovelace, Robin lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and service to others.

She attended Mount St. Agnes School and graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School in 1971. Her early college years were spent at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, before transferring to the University of Virginia, where she graduated in 1975 from the School of Nursing, one of the early classes of women admitted to the university.

Her nursing career began at St. Joseph Medical Center in Baltimore, where she worked in the Intensive Care Unit. Over the course of her 45 year nursing career, she devoted more than 20 years to critical care nursing, a testament to her skill, steady hands, and heart for others.

In 1988, she and her family moved to Sebring, Florida, and later settled in Melbourne Beach in 2010. There, she embraced coastal life walking the shoreline, caring for the sea turtle nests, searching for shells, tending her orchids, and greeting the dawn each day with a quiet moment watching the sunrise.

It was during high school that she became friends with her neighbor, Samuel Pendleton Gutridge III. Their friendship grew into love during college, and they married on June 5, 1976. They remained devoted partners for 46 years until his passing, building a life together grounded in love and laughter.

She embodied the spirit of a caregiver not only as a nurse but as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor. Her nurturing presence extended to everyone around her, and she was often the quiet, steady support for those in need.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas Lovelace (Linda), and her nephew, Marcus Scott Lovelace; by her daughters, Meghan McGrath (Jason Gardener) and Margaret (Chaney) Block; and by her beloved great-grandchildren, Nolan McGrath, Ellie McGrath, Eva Block, and Emily Block.

Her legacy lives not only in the many lives she touched, but also in the simple, beautiful moments she treasured:  the first light of morning, the sound of waves against the shore, the perfect seashell tucked in her pocket.
