It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Howard Cope. He passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2026 at Mid Pinellas Hospice Care in Pinellas Park,Florida.
Bill was born January 22, 1939 in Hudson, Illinois to Howard and Lucille Cope. He grew up in Hudson where he married his first wife, Carol and started a family. At 21, he bought his first service station, which developed into a life long passion. Over the years, he owned and managed many service stations with the help of his sons and dedicated staff, finally retiring at 65.
In the 1970's, Bill and his family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. They spent spare time boating and fishing in Pinellas County. He also thoroughly enjoyed visiting family in Illinois over the years. Bill was an avid sports fan, particularly the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Every season, he looked forward to Spring Training and games where he was able to meet and interact with the players. He joined various bowling leagues where he held the top scores. Bill spent the past 25 years with his loving wife, Nancy by his side. They were married in 2001 and enjoyed their lives together.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, his son, David and his brothers, Pete, Jack and Donnie. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Pici Copa, his former wife, Carol Cope, his children Dennis (Paula) Cope, Denise, Teresa, Chris, daughters in law, Sherri and Toni and his brother, Dick. He will be missed by his supportive step children, grand children: Ashley, Dennis Jr., Thomas, Lindsay, Zach, Seth, Gabi, Chris Jr., Austin, and Kyle, and great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Maxwell, Silas, Logan, Rose and Gabriel.
Bill will be greatly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
