Catherine Ann McGarry, born on August 12, 1949, in Bluffton, Indiana, gifted the world with 75 years of love, resilience, and altruism. She departed peacefully on November 13, 2024, in St. Petersburg, Florida, leaving behind an inspiring legacy defined by compassion and community service.
A proud alumna of the University of Tampa, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business, Catherine dedicated her professional life to nurturing future generations. As the Development Director at Eckerd College, she was instrumental in creating opportunities for young minds and served as a beacon of hope and guidance for students and faculty alike. Her professional accomplishments were only surpassed by her heartfelt dedication to philanthropy. Catherine supported a myriad of causes, including the Queen of Hearts, Jewish Box Car Project, the Food Bank, SPCA, PARC, Girl Scouts of America, Kind Mouse, Boley Angels, Junior League, and many more. Her unwavering commitment to bettering her community profoundly impacted many lives and inspired those around her to also seek opportunities to give back.
Catherine's indomitable spirit lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Allison Gormley, and son-in-law, Craig Gormley; cherished grandson, Benjamin Kilby; beloved son, Christopher McGarry, and his wife, Heather McGarry; granddaughters, Stella and Maddilyn McGarry. Her sister, Carol D'Ambrumenil, and brother-in-law, Christopher, along with their son Charles Gauthier and his wife Fiona Gauthier and sons Liam, Sean, and James Gauthier, provided her with love and laughter. She remains fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Janet Carter, nephew Andrew Carter, and his wife Elizabeth. Catherine was preceded in death by her loving husband, William G. McGarry, her parents, Dr. Fred S. Carter and Mariann Carter, and her brother, Jeff Carter.
Her indelible warmth and generosity continue to ripple through those who knew her, a testament to a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved. In Catherine’s memory, let us all find inspiration to better our own communities, honoring her legacy with every act of kindness and charity.
A celebration of life will be held December 6th, at 2:00pm with service starting at 2:30,
at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St N St Petersburg FL 33704
