Doris Brown Johnson

Doris Brown Johnson, 101, died at Edward White Hospital on March 5th after a brief illness. Doris inspired other by remaining healthy, independent, and optimistic into advanced age. She took seriously her role as a citizen, and was a campaigner for community reforms in Galesburg, Illinois, where she lived for fifty years. During her decades in St. Petersburg, she regularly wrote letters of opinion on current issues to editors and to national leaders and representatives until shortly before her death.
Doris celebrated her 100th birthday in April 2006 at Saffron?s restaurant with family members from France, Hawaii, Oregon, Illinois and Florida. She was preceded in death by her elder daughter Joy Brown Sarfati, and is survived by her daughter Sue Brown Cowing Cedric of Honolulu, her son Peter Brown Sherry of Galesburg, Illinois, by her four grandchildren, Isabelle Joulin of Bonnieres, France, James Cowing of Portland, Oregon, David Sarfati of Le Chesnay, France, and Shane Brown of Rock Island, Illinois, and by three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Doris Brown Johnson will be held at 2 o?clock on Monday, March 12th, at Christ United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
