George R. Lightkep

Lightkep, George R., Sr., 83, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday May 15, 2005 at home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he came here in 1954 from Pittsburg, KS. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a spotter for artillery and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a G.E. Sales Representative for 10 years and of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife Lucretia ?Doll?; three sons: George R., Salt Springs, FL; Richard C., Pensacola, FL; and Thomas R., Floral City, FL; one brother Richard H. Lightkep, St. Petersburg; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Ordered to Active Duty. George R. Lightkep, World War II veteran, has been called for active duty back in the army and has been ordered to report at Fort Sill, Okla., on Nov. 13. He will have the rank of first lieutenant, the same he held when he was separated from the army on Dec. 25, 1945. Lightkep enlisted in the army in January of 1941 and was stationed near Pearl Harbor when the Japs struck in the surprise raid. He served in the Pacific from Feb. 8, 1941 to Feb. 8, 1943.
