Jane Riedle White

April 1, 1915 — June 4, 2003

WHITE, Jane Riedle, 88, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday, June 4th, 2003 at Bon Secours Maria Manor. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 1, 1915 and moved to St. Petersburg with her parents in 1932. She went into nurses training at Mound Park Hospital which is today known as Bayfront Medical Center from 1934 to 1937 and completed her higher education in Philadelphia in 1938. She worked as the Supervisor of the Operating Room at Mound Park and helped with the training of future nurses for eight years. She met her husband, Frank R. White, of 49 years, through a mutual doctor friend and they were married January 20,1945. After a year of married life she left the nursing profession to join her husband's side as they began their lifelong journey together as young entrepreneurs. She and her husband started Frank White Grocery and sons, also known as Spring Market, where he was the butcher and she ran the register and ordered all the groceries. Together they raised two sons Frank Russell White, Jr. and David Charles White and centered their lives around what would become a local family store to the Northeast neighborhood until their retirement in 1971. She never regretted giving up her 8 year career to devote her life to her husband, his dream and their family. After her husband's death in 1994 she continued to live in the home where they had raised their sons. In 2001 she moved to the Northshore Retirement Home in downtown St.Petersburg, and resided there until recently when she was transferred to Bon Secours Maria Manor. Survivors include two sons: Frank R. White, Jr., Kathmandu, Nepal;and David C. White, St. Petersburg;two grandchildren: Patricia White Norris, St. Petersburg; and David C. White, Jr., Cary, NC.
