Jo Ann Burkett, 68, of St. Petersburg Fl, passed on Saturday May 2nd, 2026, in the care of Hospice surrounded by family.
Jo Ann was born on December 25th, 1957 in Long Beach, California. Her father Domitilo Aguirre was career Coast Guard. Her mother was Herminia Aguirre (Rosales). The family lived in various places including Governor’s Island in New York, New Bedford, Mass., and Guam, before finally settling in St. Petersburg, FL. Jo Ann had three sisters. Penny, Lyndette, and Tracy. She is an alumna of St. Pete. High, St. Pete. Junior College, and Texas Women’s University College of Nursing. She earned a B.S.N. degree in 1981 and spent the next 45 years giving care to thousands throughout the Tampa Bay area. She married her husband (Roy Burkett) that same year. They met in 1976. Her religion was catholic. She loved the beach. She loved to travel. She loved Guam and returned there whenever possible.
She is survived by her husband Roy, her son Ryan Burkett (wife Leah), her son Eric Burkett (wife Victoria), Grandchildren Rylee and Jacob, her sister Penny Brinton, her sister Lyndette Aguirre, and her sister Tracy Capella. She had many relatives in the Houston Texas area.
She is predeceased by her mother, her father, an infant brother (Roscoe), her mother in-law, her father in-law, a brother in-law, and her two beloved dogs Rocky and Indy.
There will be a memorial mass Saturday May 23rd, 2026 at 0900. It will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic church, 1800 12th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704. Place of inurnment will be Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Contact www.Anderson McQueen.com if more information is needed.
You would have wanted to have her for a daughter, for a mother, for a grandmother, for a partner, for a nurse, for a friend. She was beautiful…. What else is there to say.
