Richard S. "Dick" Placzek, 81, of Clearwater, FL and formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at Morton Plant Hospital. He was born in Westfield, MA. His parents immigrated from Poland, meeting in the United States. He was the youngest of 10 children and is survived by one brother, Fred (Irene) Placzek of Windsor Locks, CT, and several nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA. To complete his MBA with emphasis on hospital administration, he came to St. Petersburg in June 1960 to serve a one-year residency at Mound Park Hospital (now Bayfront Health). He remained in Pinellas County throughout his career, serving in several positions and retiring in 1997 as Executive Vice President, All Children's Hospital. After retirement, he volunteered at the hospital on Monday afternoons. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church since 1960. At the time of his death, he was an active Deacon and teacher of the Celebration Sunday School class. He was a member of the Gideons International East Camp and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. He is also survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, May 3, 2015 at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100 - 16th Street North, St.Petersburg. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 4, 2015 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church 4901 - 5th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, with Dr. Hal Kitchings and Rev. Mickey Burroughs officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
