Mansfield, Ruth S., 90, formerly of Coudersport, PA, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 at The Springs Nursing Facility in Pasadena, FL. Born on March 14, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA she was the daughter of Walter and Margaret Cole Stiles. On December 9, 1939 in Coudersport she married Richard A. Mansfield who died on October 28, 1993. Mrs. Mansfield graduated from Coudersport High School and Practical Nursing School in Batavia, NY. She worked in the nursing field for many years. She retired from Pure Carbon Company where she was in personnel and the plant nurse. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church where she joined in 1931, and a member of the Coudersport Business and Professional Women?s Club. She served for many years as chairman of the Potter County Repulican Committee and was active in local, state and national Republican affiliates. She also served for some time on the Coudersport Borough Council and was in charge of the personnel committee. In 1995 she moved to Tierra Verde, FL and resided with her daughter and family. After moving to Florida she immediately began working on the local Pinellas County election board as a watcher in her precinct. Surviving are a daughter, Marsha Mansfield Thur Young of Tierra Verde, FL, two granddaughters, Martha Young Jerry Little of Tierra Verde, FL, Karen Young Jerry Weaver of Jacksonville, FL, two great-grandchildren, Meredith Little of Tierra Verde, FL, and Cole Weaver of Jacksonville, FL, four nieces, Linda Russell, Nancy Palmatier, Virginia Erway and Susan Hetrick, all of Coudersport, and one nephew, William Goodnoe of Port Allegany. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Walter Stiles, Jr., a sister, Virginia Goodnoe, and a nephew, Walter Stiles, III. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 11:00AM Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport, PA with Reverend Larry Siikanen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport.
