Dr. Wallace "Wally" Lantz Dawson PGM, died June 6, 2010 at the Masonic Home of Florida in St. Petersburg, at the age of 74 due to congestive heart failure.
He was born in Kingwood W.Va, June 29, 1935 to R.E. and Hester "Mill" Dawson. His elder brother, Wayne E. Dawson and younger sister Mary Louise Dawson rounded out the household in Kingwood.
He graduated from West Virginia University, Phi Beta Kappa. After his 2 year enlistment in United States Navy as a Fleet physician during the Cuban Blockade, he moved to Cape Coral Fl. in 1963 and joined Dr Robert R. Tate in the first Cape Coral Clinic on Coronado Pkwy.
Wally was a member and past president of the Cape Coral Rotary Club and served on the Cape Coral Hospital Board. He retired from medicine and became a member of the Cape Coral Lodge #367F&AM and was Worshipful Master in 1983. He served on the Masonic Home of Florida Board of Trustees in 1990. In 1994, he was the Grand Master of Florida and after the secretary of The Cape Coral Masonic Lodge until 2007.
Blessed with a gifted mind, Wally sought out ways to bring health and joy to his fellow man. Known as the "whistling" doctor, he often sang to calm and lighten the mood.
Wallace is survived by his brother, Wayne E. Dawson and wife Doris and cousin Jerry S. Lee. His daughters, Lyn Dawson Tate and husband Thomas, Lori Dawson Hunter and husband John. His grandchildren, Christopher Thomas , Brandy Lauren, Kaela Rae and Tyler Noel. Also great-grandchildren, Sierra Lyn, Elijiah Christopher, Aspen Noel, Dawson Christopher and Piper Lauren.
Memorial Service to be held at the Cape Coral Lodge F&AM on Saturday, June 26 at 3:00.
