Ervin Joseph Barnick
February 9, 1946 — May 4, 2025
Ervin Barnick, 79, Commerce City, CO, went to his eternal resting place on May 4, 2025. He passed away in the hospital due to complications of pneumonia.
Ervin Joseph Barnick was born February 9, 1946, to James and Annie (Meyer) Barnick in Bismarck, ND. He attended school in Dawson and Steele, where he graduated in 1965. In June, 1966, Ervin joined the US Army. He did two tours overseas during the Vietnam War. Ervin received many awards during his service including a Good Conduct medal, the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service medals, a Workmanship medal, and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in May of 1970.
Ervin married Carol Schock on August 27, 1966. Their first son Kevin was born on June 18, 1969. The family moved to Colorado in September of 1969. Their son Troy was born on August 18, 1973. Ervin worked for companies doing concrete work until 1979, when he started his own business, Big E Concrete.
Ervin had a heart attack in 2015. He went to a nursing facility for rehab. He returned home until 2017 when he had to go back to the nursing facility.
Some of Erv’s most enjoyable times were spent camping and fishing with family and friends. His favorite places to go were Lake McConaughey, NE, Guernsey, WY, and Williamsfork, CO. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. Ervin was a very happy person and loved by all.
Ervin is survived by his sons Kevin (Darlene) Barnick and Troy Barnick; grandchildren Corey Lovato, Christopher Lovato, Kayla Williams, Michael Barnick, Cody Barnick, Adam Tafoya, and Jasmine Lovato; great grandchildren Anna Lovato, Rhemy Wilbourne, Bryce Lovato, and Kyuis Lovato; former daughter-in-law Benito Lovato; former wife Carol Barnick; brothers Frank (Connie) Barnick and Marvin Barnick of Steele, ND, Bill (Paulette) Barnick of Tappen, ND, and Larry (Faye) Barnick of Bismarck, ND; sisters Elsie Wittmeier of Wishek, ND, Janice Dwigans of El Paso, TX, and Kathy Barnick of Bismarck, ND; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents James and Annie Barnick; brothers Jimmie, Ralph, and Raymond Barnick; and sisters Phyllis Briese, Helen Allen, and Judy Everding.
