Barry Guy Fitzpatrick
July 4, 1949 — May 7, 2026
Barry Guy Fitzpatrick, 76, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully surrounded by his cherished family, at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital (Denver) on May 7, 2026. He was born on July 4, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a graduate of Portland High School in 1967.
Barry was a lover of music. He played bass and electric guitar for over fifty years. He broke into the music scene in High School and was a member of several Indiana and Colorado country and rock bands. Barry’s most recent band, Denver based No Excuse, was together for twenty five years, entertaining the greater Denver area and Colorado.
Barry was an avid fan of Baseball, growing up rooting for the Chicago Cubs. He moved to Colorado in 1983 and carried that team spirit with him, until 1993 when the Rockies came to Denver. He threw all of his support for his new local team and watched every home opener he could.
He began his professional career at the John’s Manville Technical Center in Littleton, Colorado. Barry designed and developed the Fiber Preparation Laboratory working on fiber bio-solubility studies. His work culminated in the re-classification of JM fiberglass wool as a Group 3 substance: “not classifiable as a cancer-causing agent” by the Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). He went on to work in the Metallurgy Lab receiving a U.S. Patent for “ceramic bushing supports” in 2014. He was inducted into the honorable John’s Manville Quarter Century Club in 2009, retiring after 31 years in 2015. His wife, also a John’s Manville retiree, worked at the Glass Lab at John’s Manville Technical Center
One of Barry’s dearest passions was hosting his large family and friends for cookouts on Birthdays and Holidays. Everyone gathering at his beloved Lakewood home. One of the best gatherings of the year was always the 4th of July, where it seemed like the entire country was celebrating his birthday!
Barry is survived by his wife of 21 years, Judith L. (Csider) Hunter; his son, Joshua G. Fitzpatrick and wife Lizabeth (Lasater) Fitzpatrick; his brother Mark Fitzpatrick and wife Susan (Freeman) Fitzpatrick. His bonus family includes Brian J. Hunter and wife Kanda R. (Killam) Hunter, Amy E. Hunter and husband William Schmid, Paul D. Hunter and wife Chance Green, Peter L. Hunter and partner Ashley Rasmussen. Barry is also survived by his bonus grandchildren Mel and Meadow Hunter, Brooklyn and Everly Schmid, as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by his former wife Vivian E. (Liverman) Marceca.
Barry was preceded in passing by his parents James S. Fitzpatrick and Francis C. (Johnson) Fitzpatrick and siblings Michael and Diana (Infante) Fitzpatrick.
