Troy Anthony Dattilo

September 14, 1964 — March 2, 2024

Troy Anthony Dattilo became the first-born son of Anthony A. and Ellen Dattilo on September 14, 1964 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He arrived in the aftermath of a record-setting F5 tornado that had gained special attention for its strength and persistence as a powerful force which may have added those qualities to the life of this young man.

As Troy grew, he became known to most who met him as much more mature than his young years. His attitude of tenacious commitment, persistence, and strength similar to that exhibited by the tornado became evident to all that he encountered. He became known for his brilliant mind in the academics of his elementary, high school and college years, along with his athletic excellence in wrestling, baseball, and football. As a child, he surprised many adults with his talents for winning against them in complicated and fun games that required adult knowledge and athletic talent that would be expected of those much older than his kindergarten age.

He easily made friends, and became known as a competitor in all that he did in team, and individual sports. His goal was always to win, which he did with very few exceptions, particularly during his years in the sport of wrestling, which culminated with his earning a state division championship. His five years younger brother, Tim, and ten years younger little sister, Tonya became “practice partners” for application and sharpening of his winning wrestling moves.

Sports became secondary in nature for Troy during his education years at Colorado State University, although he was selected as a pitcher for their baseball team. As much as he loved this sport, his interest in mastering the complicated curriculum of his college degree was at the top of his list, and considered most important for the use of his time and effort. That tenacity to achieve his goal was realized as it was there that he excelled and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Finance, a goal that he always knew he wanted since his toddler days when he saved all his pennies – and always stated “for college.” Troy also excelled in various marksmanship competitions during his teen years as coached and encouraged by his dad. His interest and winning talent in firearms marksmanship continued throughout his life.

After several successful ventures in the construction business while serving as the financial officer for large projects including the construction of several large prisons in California, and the Colorado Mills Shopping Mall, and as the Chief Financial Officer / Partner for a Colorado corporation in Colorado Springs. The

internal stress factors associated with his role that were not anticipated or forecast in his educational years made a definite impact on him. Despite the exceptional hours and continual weekends of work responsibilities, he maintained his determined attitude to “get it right” and “success” for his company.

During these experiences, he met Kim Mitcham in 1998 and they were married in 2011. Although they resided in Lakewood, Colorado, Troy commuted daily to and from his company’s office in Colorado Springs. Much of Troy’s enjoyment, was provided by his lifelong love of dogs – which he considered as his “children.” It was recently devastating for Troy and Kim when it became necessary for them to euthanize their last beloved dog. Plans were made for a long-awaited vacation during the coming year, but during the early morning hours of sleep on March 2nd, 2024, Troy would not awaken from what was reported as an unexpected medical event that took his life - at age 59. His legacy was insistence on excellence in all that he did, or was responsible for.

Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony J. and Lena (Geglio) Dattilo, and Orville and Ellen (Burdick) Riley, Aunt Barbara (Dattilo) Mitchell and Uncle Robert (Louise) Eson. He is survived by his parents Anthony and Ellen Dattilo, his wife, Kim Mitcham, his brother Tim Dattilo, his sister, Tonya (Ralph) Dattilo Martinez, nieces and nephew, Scarlette (Dattilo) Vise, Alexsandra Dattilo (God Daughter), Brittney, Kaylie and Garrett Martinez (God-son), Paige and Carrie Dattilo, and numerous cousins and extended family members in Colorado, Michigan and Ohio.

Memorial services and internment for Troy were pending but neither was held.
