June 25, 1941 — April 6, 2019
Bonita Aili Korpi, 77, of Esko, MN and South Range, WI, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born June 25, 1941 in Cloquet, the daughter of Edward and Aili Seppala. Bonnie married William "Billy" Korpi on August 1, 1970 in Esko.
Bonnie was a 1959 graduate of Esko High School and graduated from UMD in 1965 with a teaching degree and later obtained a Master's in Education. She began her teaching career as an elementary teacher at Washington School and then moved to Winterquist School and retired after teaching for 32 years.
She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Esko and attended Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, WI. Bonnie loved singing in the church choir and enjoyed doing handwork, sewing, and crocheting. She was a member of the Esko Book Club Committee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy; son, Riku; her parents and grandparents.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Taavi (Amanda) Korpi of South Range, WI and Anna Korpi (fiance' Mike Appleton) of Duluth; five grandchildren, Noah, Milo, Maija, Annika and Baxter; siblings, Nancy Seppala of Esko, Leon Seppala of CA and Keith Seppala of Esko; two nieces, Buena Fe Seppala and Aurora Lynn Seppala and many extended family and friends.
Bonnie's family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Essentia Hospice Team, especially Jenny, for the wonderful care given to her.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service, Saturday, April 13, 2019 in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Esko. Inurnment will be in the spring in St. Matthews Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
