Carol Annette (Lussier) Bergstrom
January 8, 1938 — September 20, 2023
Carol Annette (Lussier) Bergstrom, 85, of Cloquet, MN, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. Carol was born in Red Lake, MN at the Red Lake Indian Hospital to Elsie Lussier on January 8, 1938. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents Adam and Mary Lussier. Carol attended St. Mary’s Mission school grades K-8 and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1956. She was a proud member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.
Carol married LeRoy on September 28, 1956 and together they raised their seven children in Carlton, MN. After her children were grown, LeRoy and Carol moved to Cloquet where Carol then worked at the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. Carol especially enjoyed her bingo club, sewing club, baking, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was deeply grounded in her Christian faith.
Carol is survived by her husband of 67 years, LeRoy Bergstrom; daughters, Anita Kavanaugh (Patrick), Kathleen Johnson (Neil), Susan Johnson (Pat Page), Betty Johnson (Pat Faherty), Donna Bergstrom (Skip Fischer), Amy Bergstrom; son, LeRoy Bergstrom (Lisa); siblings; Rae Lynn, Jackie and Hilda Sayers. In addition to her children, she was a proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Carol is preceded in death by her mother; grandparents; siblings Paul Sayers, Patrick Roman, Jerald “Jerry” Sayers and Mary “Sadie” Phinney; and numerous other relatives.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023: visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the 11:00 a.m. service at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1705 Wilson Ave, Cloquet, MN.
