Margie Anite Rose Jokinen
August 16, 1934 — April 28, 2026
Margie Anite Rose (Anderson) Jokinen, 91, passed away at her home in Sawyer, MN on April 28, 2026 surrounded by family. She was born at home in Cloquet, MN on August 16, 1934. She grew up alongside her brother and sister, married Wayne Jokinen in 1951, and lovingly raised five daughters. Margie’s love of flowers led her to become a Master Gardener, manage The Plant Place in Cloquet, and to start her own backyard business – Margie’s Perennials. Through her enthusiasm for gardening, she met countless people who enriched her life as she did theirs.
Margie welcomed friends, family, and strangers alike into her home for a cup of coffee, a slice of homemade rye bread, and if you were lucky – potato salad, meatballs, baked beans, fish, or wild rice hotdish. She was known for her helpfulness, her unconditional love and steadfast support of her large family, her faith in God, and her expertise in leading by example.
She is survived by her husband Wayne Jokinen, with whom she shared 74 years of marriage; brother Ben (Pat) Anderson; daughters Brenda Jerikovsky, Cassie Kiehn, Roxy (Clyde) Homstad, Carla Jokinen, and Leslie (Gary) Homstad; special niece Lynne Decker; grandchildren Darin (Becky) Jerikovsky, Sheree (Alan) Eskuri, Wendy (Mike) Jerikovsky, Chris (Alisha) Soderbloom, Alana (Keith) Hurst-Samuels, Tina (Brett) Tempest, Sara (Dan) Baars, Dustin (Linnea) Homstad, AJ Johnson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother Ora Gladys Sands; father Bengt Anderson and stepmother Huldah Anderson; sister June Anderson; granddaughters Mindy Jerikovsky and Lisa Westendorf; and sons-in-law Joe Jerikovsky and Steve Kiehn.
Margie was a kind, caring, and generous woman throughout her life and even in death. Per her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Minnesota to advance medical research. Margie’s beauty and grace will live on in the many hearts she touched and the countless gardens that showcase her flowers across the Northland and beyond.
Services will be held at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet on Saturday, May 9, 2026: visitation at 2:00 p.m. and funeral at 3:00 p.m.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff of St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion.
